Raevon Knight
“I suppose you’ve seen what’s all over the news,” he says.
“It wasn’t terrorists,” I state. “But that’s a good story. Not your best though.”
“It wasn’t my idea, but anything works if it keeps the public from seeing what’s really out there,” he says. It’s quiet for a moment.
“I should be out there,” I say. “I’m ready to do this. I’m ready to go after him.”
“You stay put. We’ve got people on The Greater Good organization. We need you where you are.” I clench my fist and sigh. This searching isn’t the same anymore. I get more Deviants each time I get in a new place and faster than what I did before. It’s not exciting enough. I want something dangerous.
“I can’t do this for very much longer, Jacob. You’ll have to send me out on the field eventually,” I say.
“Your time will come, Raevon. Don’t jump into something so quick when it could kill you,” he assures me.
“I’ll see you in November,” I say.
“You plan on running through that university that fast?” He asks. I smile.
“Plan on it.”
Raevon Knight isn’t your ordinary college student. When she arrives at Stonegate University, she arrives with enthusiastic bloodlust in her eyes. She is on a mission. But the students in Stonegate may be the limit to her guilty conscience. Her own roommate is a person who has a past very much like her own, how can Raevon betray her and still live with herself? Can Raevon get through this assignment without questioning everything she’s ever believed in? When someone is able to look through Raevon’s facade identity, not only is she at risk of losing her entire coping mechanism for her morally gray actions, but her life, along with all those that she loves, is at risk. Raevon’s loyalty is shifting; will she be able to leave her life-long boss and closest father-figure to be with the people she knows she truly belongs with and survive? But no one leaves I.O.E. and lives to tell the tale, especially Jacob’s favorite agent.
Amee Woods
“You don’t know shit.” I turn to walk away, heading back to the campus.
“I know what Scott did last night,” he says, stopping me in my tracks. I turn back to him, still irritated.
“What Scott did last night hardly concerns me.”
“That’s not what you thought last night. You seemed very concerned last night,” he says. I stare at him, refusing to speak. “I don’t know what you and Kate are doing but I want to be a part of it,” he says. I shake my head, infuriated at this whole situation.
“You wouldn’t be able to comprehend what I’m doing,” I say.
“I don’t know, I might,” he says, holding his hand out as if considering the situation. He steps towards me. “What if I told you I could do what Scott did last night?” I roll my eyes, unconvinced. He takes another step toward me. “What if I told you I could do what Kate did this morning?” I stare into his deep, sapphire blue eyes, reading the seriousness behind them. He is now only a foot away from me. “What about you, Amee?” I begin to think about what he is saying. I glance at Kate, and then back at Jesse. What are the chances? “What’s your ability?” He asks.
Amee Woods attends Stonegate University to become a lawyer, but because of a lack of reasons, no one believes she will succeed. But no one can know that she has a plan. Revenge is her reason. Revenge is the thing that keeps her going. Revenge is the thing that wakes her up in the night. Revenge is the thing that gives her the motivation to continue to risk her life to intercept every I.O.E. agent that transports the very thing that can destroy people like her. But when two of her close friends discover her secrets and want to join her crusade, she realizes there is a lot more at risk. She shares her goal to end I.O.E. with them, but at the price of realizing that people like her don’t get to be with people like Clint Evans.
Johnny Barlow
“I didn’t want to ask you in front of May Eve, but did it come?” She whispers.
“What?” I ask her.
“Did that spades person-“
“AceofSspades?” I say.
“Yeah, did he send you the information of your mom and sister?”
“Uh,” I start. Most all my friends know that I’m out searching for my sister and the closest ones know about Ace, but for once I don’t really feel like confiding in my friends about this. I just want to open the file when I’m ready to see what’s inside. “No. They didn’t send it yet,” I say to her.
Johnny Barlow’s idea of a family is far from the reality. At an early age, his mother had left his father and took his baby sister with her, never to see them again. His father passed away will he was still a boy and he was placed in his aunt’s hands to be cared for. In the year of 2019, Johnny is in search of his lost mother and sister. He doesn’t know what he will find nor how much he is depending on still having a connection with his father through his sister. Along with his rough past, Johnny has a skill that his father has past down to him. Being a skeptic, Johnny’s father taught him to use this skill to protect himself and his loved ones. As Johnny’s search gets deeper, will Johnny have to use his skill for the purpose he was trained for? The secrets of his family go into more dangerous areas then Johnny could’ve ever realized, and with all of his secrets, the chances of living a normal life with the one he loves most is getting slimmer with each new piece of information.
Jesse Strong & Shadrach Forest
“I can’t leave Stonegate. Not yet,” I say. He looks at me with a very annoyed, Shad-look.
“Why not?” He says. I don’t have the gut to flat out lie to him, so I settle with no explanation.
“I can’t say. It involves someone else’s life.” He squints at me, trying to read me. I don’t yet feel the calming, warm feeling come over me, but I speak before he even gets a chance. “And don’t even think about using your ability on me because I can do it right back at you,” I say.
“I hardly need to use my ability to get what I want from people,” he says.
“Well, you won’t get the reason from me any time soon,” I say, patting his shoulder. I turn to walk away but he calls my name. I turn back to look at him.
“If it’s a girl, we can take her with,” he says. I picture trying to ask these two girls to drop everything for me so we can achieve mine and Shad’s dream of seeing the world. The thought almost makes me laugh. I shake my head instead.
“Not these girls.”
Jesse Strong and his best friend, Shadrach Forest, knew how to fend for themselves at a young age. Their goal of traveling the world had come to a halt when they found themselves in Stonegate, surrounded by great people and friends. Finding themselves in college, working for a career, Shadrach wants to continue his travels around the world, never to stop in one place, just has he and Jesse had vowed to each other when they had left their past lives behind. But something is stopping Jesse from going. Is it a girl? The two best friends have shared everything together since they were little boys, but Shad can sense something different lately. Is Jesse hiding something from him? Surely, it’s nothing dangerous. Jesse was always the more cautious one and had made sure they steered clear of anything dodgy. But something has changed between the two best friends when Shad himself gains a secret that he decides not to share with Jesse. Something is happening in their friendship, something they had vowed never to let happen, and they are both keeping secrets from each other.
Kate Silver
We are so close that her curls brush against my cheek. I look at her, but she seems to know it and doesn’t look at me. It’s quiet for the longest moment.
“My parents didn’t…” I can see her face flush even in this dark of night. She shivers next to me even while wrapped in the blanket and being so close. Her breathing comes in short, quick breaths and I suddenly realize that I don’t want her to tell me about her parents.
“Don’t, Kate,” I say, and she looks at me. “Don’t tell me about them… Not until you’re ready.” She sniffs and I suddenly notice the two large tears rolling down her cheeks.
“Thank you.”
Kate Silver’s past wasn’t buried. In fact, it was displayed. For the whole world to see. And it made her look insane. But she’s starting to notice that her past isn’t quite all the way in the past. Her parents’ death is coming back to haunt her. Will she be able to convince her friends of the truth? Or will it be the age thirteen all over again and everyone will avoid her and assume it’s the coping mechanism kicking in again? Is it even worth expressing the truth? But if she didn’t it could put her at risk of loosing her own life. But is this all really happening? Or is it, just as everyone thinks, a coping mechanism to live with the knowledge that her parents committed suicide together?
Clint Evans
“Okay, well it still doesn’t matter unless we figure out how and why we are getting these,” Shad says.
“So, we figure out a pattern,” I say.
“That could be anything,” Clarity says. I shrug my shoulders.
“It’s the first step to figuring out where they are coming from,” I say. Gracie and I look at each other but I shake my head. The pattern of people like us is already off the table, unless Shad and Irene have abilities. What are the chances? How would a person even tell? Is there a way to tell?
Clint Evans is seemingly living a perfect life with the perfect girlfriend, working to be an architect. Even the most abnormal thing about him seems normal with his girlfriend. But hardships arrive in their relationship when both he and Gracie begin looking towards other people. Being friends with each other for years, Clint isn’t able to let Gracie go as well as he’d like. Things get even more complicated when he and Gracie with other close friends notice something going around Stonegate University that no other student or professor seems to notice or care about. Determined to get to the bottom of the mystery, Clint discovers something about someone that can’t be swept under the rug. Fighting between his conflicted feelings, Clint finds himself and his friends in the middle of danger. Will he be able to make the right decisions without exposing the one thing between him and Gracie that, no matter what hardships they suffer, they will never betray?
Deviants
Deviants is the first book of a long eight book series that was my very first project I have ever worked on and have continued to work on it for the past ten years. I have written and rewritten it more then once, but this time I think it finally clicked with me. Each character has his or her purpose, the backgrounds are so much more effective, the antagonists are no longer cardboard, the relationships have a touch of reality. And I’ve finally found a way to share it with someone who has no idea of where the plot will lead them, giving them the opportunity to give me proper criticism to better improve my story even more. I hope this sneak peek has interested you and if it has go check out Deviants on Wattpad by Almb40. I’m looking forward to going on this journey with you.
