Perks of Writing Your Story on Paper First

What they say is true. All you really need to do is get your ideas out of your head and onto some sort of format before you do any revisions. For a first time writer I do highly recommend this. And over time I have discovered something with myself: I hate writing.

Don’t get me wrong, I love creating ideas. I just don’t like writing them on paper with a pencil. I would pick typing over a pencil any day of the week.

But I have also discovered that when I write on paper and then go over it a second time to type it on my laptop my second version is already so much better than my first!

Of course that’s obvious. But I haven’t even started doing the main revision yet!

I discovered this with my manuscript Tacenda. I had written each chapter on paper before typing it on my laptop, revising it as I went along. When I had finished the entire manuscript and I went back to do the major revisions I realize that I loved the way it had turned out and I only ended up doing minor revisions and some grammar editing.

I’ll admit, it is exhausting sometimes writing on paper first, but I was so happy with the way it turned out when I had finished it that I know it was ready to be sent to a publish house the minute I hit the last period key.

It is extremely encouraging as well when your first typed version feels like a masterpiece. I’m not saying it is, or that all my projects are masterpieces, but it sure feels like it compared to the version that you have on paper.

I love writing and I love sharing experiences and listening to experiences. I enjoy bringing the hidden write out of people and encourage them to go for what they want, that's why I started this blog.
